What is a lithium-ion forklift?
A lithium-ion (Li-ion) forklift is a battery-electric truck powered by a lithium-ion traction battery. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries generally need no water topping up and can usually be charged in short sessions, such as during breaks. Like any electric truck, a lithium forklift produces no exhaust at the point of use.
Every truck here also appears in our wider electric forklift range. If you are still choosing a power type, see our guide to lithium, lead-acid and diesel forklifts.
Which jobs and sites suit these trucks?
Match the truck to your floor, your loads and the space you have to turn.
- Indoor work and tight spaces: the 1.6 t 3-wheel FE3R16NC is from the N Series, intended for indoor use with a compact chassis, and has a 1,500 mm turning radius. The 3-wheel C Series FE3D16/18/20C runs on cushion (solid) tyres and is built for compact size and manoeuvrability. See our three-wheel forklifts.
- General handling from 1.5 t to 5.5 t: A Series trucks, built on a universal platform for electric and IC trucks, and Q Series performance lithium-powered trucks.
- Rough ground: the FE2RT18/25 is a lithium 2WD rough terrain truck rated at 1.8 t or 2.5 t, 1,450 mm wide overall. See our rough terrain forklifts.
- Heavy loads: A Series models from 6 t to 10 t (CPD60-100L) and from 14 t to 18 t (CPD14L/16/16L/18L), plus the N2 Series FEP-80/90/100N2 at 8 t to 10 t. See also our heavy-duty forklifts.
Choosing a lithium forklift in this range
Start with rated capacity, then check the footprint against your aisles. Where the spec tables list a turning radius, it runs from 1,500 mm on the FE3R16NC to 5,175 mm on the CPD160L and CPD180L. Most spec tables in this range list a 3,000 mm (3 m) lift height, so check that against your racking at the specification stage.
Battery voltage and capacity vary across the range. Where listed, the spec tables give:
- 48 V, 350 Ah (400 Ah optional) on the FE3R16NC
- 51.2 V, 277 Ah (412 or 554 Ah options) on the FE3D16/18/20C Li-ion versions
- 76.8 V, 412 Ah (554 Ah also listed) on the FE4P40-50Q/QL
- 153.6 V, 280 Ah on the CPD40-55
- 326.4 V, 250 Ah on the CPD60 and CPD70, and 336 V, 280 Ah on the CPD80L to CPD100L
- 96 V, 920 Ah on the FEP-80/90/100N2
- 608 V, 302 Ah on the 14 t to 18 t CPD14L/16/16L/18L
